2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

It represents 16 to 25 year olds, and it represents them in a rebellious way. It represents a rebellious social group because that’s the sort of people in to heavy metal, hard rock and punk. My product represents them in a dark way because most of the bands music is dark and that’s what this social group is into, they care how people look at them and that is one of the things that make them different to other social groups. The is a lot of people in this social group you would never guess because you don’t have to wear the uniform to be into the music and like the magazines.

1.In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

My final product has used basic conventions of a magazine and challenged some conventions. On my front cover I have mainly used basic conventions such as, masthead, coversine’s, promotion, barcode and price. I researched magazines and noticed that theses are the conventions mainly used on a front cover. When I did my research I took a look at my genre magazines (hard rock/ metal) such as kerrang! And metal hammer. I challenged the convention of how to display the free posters on my magazine, I found one kerrang magazine that display it the same but it stills challenges the conventions. But I haven’t challenged most of the conventions; I have just used them normally such as barcode +price, masthead, main image and tagline.

First of all I created my masthead “RHP” which stands for Rock In A Hard Place, I placed it going across the top of my magazine because it’s the conventional way to display it. The name of my magazine links in with the genre of my magazine. For my main image I used a medium close up which is very commonly used, my image gives off my genre because Chris (the man in my image) it does this because Chris has dread locks and he has tattoos which is similar to my audience, also he is dressed like my audience would dress such as band t-shirt and baggie jeans.

progression of my double page spread

This is my double page spread so far. I know i need to add more writing to it because its just not enough writing for a double page spread. I also need to fill in the big gap with something like who the person is that interviewed  Chris.
